The 7 Most Instagrammable Places in Catania
Catania - city touched by the sea on the east coast and dominated by Mount Etna.
The city is known as “the black city” because of the color of its buildings, blackened by soot and the ashes of the volcano…. But today we want to show you another side: “the colors of Catania”.
1. METRO STOP “BORGO”
We begin our walk around the city, leave the "Borgo" metro station and find ourselves in front of a staircase painted in the beautiful colors of the rainbow.
In January 2019, the access stairs of the historic subway stop were suddenly colored, pleasantly taking travelers by surprise. The initiative was by Ferrovia Circumetnea.

2. VIA MAZZA
We continue our walk through the narrow streets of the cities and we come across a small street full of colorful umbrellas floating in the air. We are in Via Mazza, which is close to the historic Church of San Placido!
This installation was created by restaurant managers, with the aim of redeveloping and making the area more attractive.

3. VIA BONAJUTO
Walking on Via Vittorio Emanuele II, our attention is captured by a small street with many colored benches. We are in Via Bonajuto where there is a bar run by an Italian-Polish couple. That's why when you enter this small street, you will find several written in Polish and some bottles of “Zubrowka”, a famous Polish vodka.
Small curiosity: always in Via Bonajuto you can find a beautiful large mural by the argentine writer Gomez, an internationally renowned artist!

4. SAN BERILLO DISTRICT
San Berillo District - we are in one of the historic districts of Catania. A neighborhood full of many faces. Built after the earthquake of 1693, the neighborhood was destined to become a noble neighborhood but the reconstructions and building speculations that followed transformed San Berillo into a narrow and marginalized neighborhood: a refuge for crime and prostitution.
In recent years, however, several redevelopment projects have been launched for the tourist and cultural enhancement of this historic district: San Berillo is clear proof of how much Catania believes and strongly aspires to urban regeneration.

5. VIA GISIRA
And here we are in Via Gisira, one of the most colorful streets in the city among umbrellas, pinwheels and mexican hats!
Here the objects change, but the common thread always remains the same: the color. This corner of the city shows how the city of Catania, in recent years, focuses on the creation of colorful corners that give so much joy and allow shots to be remembered by all passers-by.
And now we have so many sombreros above us!

6. VIA PENNINELLO
We continue this walk among the colors of the city and the next stop is Via Penninello, where the restaurateurs of the area have created this super colorful installation: floating bands of different colors (blue, blue, green, yellow, orange and red) that they move as the wind increases and decreases.

7. VIA SANTA BARBARA
The last stop of our long walk is a very original installation located in Via S. Barbara, a few steps from the Duomo and the "Fortino", which sees a series of white sheets spread out.
"White Sky", so called, was created by the artist Giuliano Cardella and was born from the observation of a daily scene: hanging the clothes, a usual, almost banal gesture, which however conveys a very important social message, namely that of welcoming, accepting and fully include the other, sharing spaces and interacting. If you think about it, it is a daily act that aims to integrate because it is performed by everyone, without distinction.
